prepare to be amazed

My inner nerd is rearing it's head again, and so I've decided to explore techology world again and throw another blog out there. For some of you it's been awhile, so here are the highlights of the past couple of years...

1. As of summer 07 I am now a home owner. I love my new place, and adore the neighborhood (especially my super cute elderly neighbor!). Picture it, of course, covered in white, with 4 ft snow drifts around the sidewalks to get a more current idea. There's a 2 car garage, full basement, 3 bedrooms, and the world's tiniest kitchen! I now have a new-found passion for mowing the lawn, but am not feeling quite as excited about shoveling snow!

2. I'm teaching K-5 elementary music at North Woods International School. It's a magnate school here in La Crosse, WI. Basically, we teach the entire curriculum through the lense of International Education. Besides the fact that we have yet to have gotten a snow day (even with the wind chill at -40!), I love my job! The kids fantastic, staff supportive, and my classroom is a music teacher's dream.

3. Wonder where I've disappeared to? I am also a 3/4 time graduate student at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. I attend class one weekend a month, and do a ton of work throughout the week online, reading, and implementing lessons into my classroom. I'm learning a ton, making some major changes in my teaching and learning. It feels strange to be in a "Regular Education" program rather than music, but it's been eye opening to learn how the other half lives. I've spent so much of my time in the past focusing learning to teach music, it is really good for me to focus specifically on the art of teaching. My teaching philosophy has been turned upside down. I'm pretty sure that's a good thing so far.

More later...
